OUR
PARTNERS / HEROES
The Department of Energy Technology is a part of the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Aalborg University in Denmark. The Department focuses on a sustainable future, which means that the research and teaching focuses on renewable energy, efficient energy consumption and distribution, conversion technologies and control of energy.
The Department has a research group dedicated to batteries, i.e. the Batteries research group, where research is conducted at both cell and system level, by carrying out activities in different topics, e.g. electrical and thermal characterization and modelling, state-of-charge (SoC) and state-of-health estimation (SoH), battery lifetime modeling, and battery management systems (BMS) testing and evaluation.
Beyonder Battery Center was established in 2016 in Stavanger, Norway, and has today over 50 employees. Beyonder is developing sustainable, high power, fast charging, and long lifetime batteries based on sawdust instead of cobalt and nickel. The company has top modern R&D lab for battery development, and is currently developing a pilot for battery production that will be up running spring 2022. By 2024 the company will have an industrial production and more than 600 employees. Beyonder is managing and partner in a number of R&D projects, and is cooperating with many small and large companies within R&D and the energy production industry. Beyonder is also cooperating with Universities and other education institutes in order to develop education programs within the battery industry to ensure employees with expertise required for the battery production.
The European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE) is the leading member-supported association representing organisations active across the entire energy storage value chain. EASE supports the deployment of energy storage to support the cost-effective transition to a resilient, climate-neutral, and secure energy system.
EASE represents over 50 members including utilities, technology suppliers, research institutes, distribution system operators, and transmission system operators.
Together, EASE members have significant expertise across all major storage technologies and applications. This allows us to generate new ideas and policy recommendations that are essential to build a regulatory framework that is supportive of storage.
As an independent and globally positioned supplier, ElringKlinger is a powerful and reliable partner to the automotive industry. Be it passenger car or commercial vehicle, equipped with an optimized combustion engine, with hybrid technology, or with an all-electric motor – we offer innovative solutions for all types of drive system. In doing so, we are making a committed contribution to sustainable mobility. Our lightweighting concepts help to reduce the overall weight of vehicles. As a result, vehicles powered by combustion engines consume less fuel and emit less CO2, while those equipped with alternative propulsion systems benefit from an extended range. Developing cutting-edge battery and fuel cell technology as well as electric drive units, we were among the frontrunners when it came to positioning ourselves as a specialist in the field of e-mobility. At the same time, we are committed to evolving our sealing technology for a wide range of applications. Our shielding systems are designed to ensure high end temperature and acoustics management throughout the vehicle. Dynamic precision parts developed by ElringKlinger can be used in all types of drive system. Additionally, the Group's portfolio includes engineering services, tooling technology, and products made of high-performance plastics, which are also marketed to industries beyond the automotive sector. These efforts are supported by a dedicated workforce of around 10,000 people at 44 ElringKlinger Group locations around the globe.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT is one of around 75 institutes that make up the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s largest applied research organization. Fraunhofer ICT’s campus comprises over 100 laboratories, pilot plants and test centers on 21 hectares of land in Pfinztal, near Karlsruhe (Germany). Our research strategy enables us to combine research and development work in this sector with large-scale demonstrators on our campus. Our customers and project partners include chemical and chemical process engineering companies, automotive manufacturers and their suppliers, the aviation industry, the construction industry, the plastics processing industry, material manufacturers, recycling companies, companies in the energy and environmental sectors, and customers with safety-related issues.
A key area of Fraunhofer ICT’s expertise is energy and drive systems. Within this area we work on electrical energy storage for mobile and stationary systems, as well as fuel cells and electrolysis, heat and material energy storage and the functional safety of the systems. In addition, we validate storage devices for mobile and stationary energy, and thermal storage devices. On these topics, our institute has accumulated more than 30 years of scientific know-how, laying the foundations for the development of efficient and cost-effective storage devices and converters. In the area of drive systems, we are developing solutions for both electric and internal combustion engine systems. Fraunhofer ICT designs, constructs and simulates drive systems, and validates them through testing.
